I’m not going to lie, in high school I was a sucker (and still am) for morning routine videos and generally other people’s morning rituals. Mornings are sacred to me. I’m undoubtedly a morning person and not a night owl. My motto is the earlier the better, well that’s if I get a full eight hours. I like to get up and get started with my day, I’m definitely not one to lounge in my bed in the morning, however if you are that’s cool too because each of our bodies are different and we all require different amounts of sleep to function optimally. My morning routine changes up depending on what time I get in bed how I’m feeling that morning, and if I have work (if I’m working at 5:30 AM I’m not doing all this stuff!). I like to go with the flow and adjust accordingly, never getting stuck in a mindset that “I have to do this or else” mentality. Setting up a general morning routine helps keep me centred on those days that seem like a never ending to-do list and keeps me accountable. What does an average morning look like to you?
Ok so let’s jump into this:
6/6:30 AM- First thing I do when I wake up in the morning is to make my bed, even if it’s the only thing you do in the morning you’ll feel 10x more productive. Next, I walk down over my stairs and head straight for the kitchen. Gulping back one or two huge glasses of water, my throat feels like the Sahara in the morning! I *try* not to go on my phone upon awakening and not let any outdoor noise in.
6:45 AM- I let the dogs out to do their business, and then I’m back up the stairs putting on my workout gear for the day.
7 AM- Time to move that body! I don’t workout every day, but often 4-5x a week depending on what my body’s feeling. I switch it up between HIIT workouts at home, runs, spin classes, and I am going to get back into hot yoga soon (can’t wait to add that to my routine!).
8 AM- Finish up my workout and get to making matcha. If you want to see how I make mine, I have a huge blog post on it here! After sipping back my matcha (usually enjoyed on the deck in the summer), next I get started on breakfast.
8:30 AM- I get to making breakfast usually it’s a smoothie, porridge, or toast of some sorts! Enjoyed again out on the deck if the weather permits it.
9 AM- Hop in the shower to rinse off and get ready for the day (washing my face, brushing my teeth, and all that fun stuff!).
9:30 AM- Write out my to-do list and intentions for the day, respond to Instagram’s, emails, and any other admin work that I have to do for the day! Then I’m off to care for my horses, do more work, errands, and whatever else the day throws at me!
Tips for integrating a productive morning routine:
- Lay out your workout clothes the night before so you will feel extra motivated to get your body moving, even if it’s a quick 20 minute walk around the neighbourhood.
- Prepare quick breakfasts the night before, think overnight oats, muesli, etc.
- Write out your to-do list for the day. There’s nothing like making time to remember the things that you need to do for the day! If it’s not in writing it’s not real to me!
- Change your routine up depending on how you feel, this time is about YOU.
